More Improvements at the Observatory – C14 Telescope Improvements

A couple of weeks ago, a motorized roof solution was implemented at the observatory.  You can read more about it here.

Well, our intrepid crew has made some improvements to the equipment inside the observatory!  Our C14 now has a new Telrad Finder Scope to replace the one that was on loan. Even better, NO BATTERY REQUIRED!  All too often, the telescope could not be aligned because the Telrad was left ON and the battery died. It is now power from our 12V AC-DC Power Supply!

The dedicated computer is also sporting a new monitor. This means that everything is now 1005 operational:
– Guider – CHECK!
– Computer connection to the Mount – CHECK!

Later this Spring we will be buying BackYardEOS software for Canon and Nikon DSLR Cameras. You will be able to use the computer to connect your camera and automate image capture. It also includes a focusing aid! There is even a USB Hub on the telescope along with a 8V power supply (Kendrick LINX-D Power Panel) that will power your camera. Battery adapters for most Canon and Nikon DSLR Cameras can be purchased from Kendrick ($33 for Canon / $ 48 Nikon). In other words, you won’t need a spaghetti factory of wires dangling from the telescope to hook up your camera.
