Club Activities

Monthly general meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month except for July and August. These meetings are open to the public!

We also organize an impressive number of other activities such as educational seminars, public outreach events, as well as group observing sessions throughout the year.

The June 5, 2012 Transit of Venus is undoubtedly the most successful Public Outreach event that we have ever hosted. We had approx. 700 visitors and even local TV News coverage. We had families with kids and lawn chairs in tow, teens, senior citizens, and they all seemed to know they were about to see something very special.

We had 10 telescopes set-up at Saltfleet School in Stoney Creek. We even handed out hundreds of free Solar Shades glasses! One of the telescopes was a Coronado PST Hydrogen Alpha scope with a web cam that recorded the entire event and gave our guests a view that is a bit different than the other white light filtered telescopes. Some of our members had time to take their own photos through their telescopes.

Bert was in 7th heaven!

Thanks go out to Dana and Nancy along with several of Dana's friends who helped distribute Solar Shades and even managed to collect an impressive amount in donations!
